Fariba Hosseini

Fariba Hosseini, a dentist and civil activist who is imprisoned in Shiraz, has gone on hunger strike since yesterday; a protest action that was made public by her lawyer, Fereshteh Tabanian. Tabanian wrote on her account on the social media platform X: 'Ms. Fariba Hosseini has been on hunger strike in Shiraz Prison since yesterday.' Hosseini was previously arrested on January 14, 2025; an arrest that followed her reporting on the level of violence by government agents during the suppression of protests on January 7 and 8. Before her arrest, she had informed about the security forces' treatment of protesters; a matter that seems to have influenced the judicial proceedings against her. This dentist was also sentenced in June 2025 by the First Branch of the Revolutionary Court of Shiraz, presided over by Judge Sadati, to one year of suspended imprisonment under electronic monitoring within a radius of 1000 meters. The charge against her was 'Writing the slogan 'Death to the Islamic Republic'.' According to the issued ruling, she was also sentenced to a two-year prohibition on activity on social media, a travel ban, and passport revocation; a ruling that was upheld in the appeals court of Fars Province.
